Project overview

AcceptRemote is a Horizon Europe research and innovation action dedicated to ensuring the societal readiness and acceptance of remote operations in mobility for both people and goods.

Remote operations — where vehicles are supervised or guided at a distance — are becoming an important part of future connected, cooperative and automated mobility. AcceptRemote addresses this emerging field by linking technological development with societal needs, concerns and expectations.

Why societal readiness matters

The deployment of remote mobility systems depends not only on technical performance, but also on whether people understand, trust and accept these systems in real-life contexts.

AcceptRemote places Social Sciences and Humanities at the core of its design. The project considers trust, inclusiveness, cultural adaptation, gender sensitivity and user acceptance from the earliest stages of innovation.

Trust

Understanding what people need in order to trust remote mobility systems.

Inclusiveness

Considering different users, mobility needs and social contexts across Europe.

Acceptance

Supporting mobility innovation that is not only advanced, but also widely accepted.

Technology developed with society

AcceptRemote advances remote operation solutions supported by technologies such as AI-based optimisation, human-centred decision-support tools, robust communication frameworks and concepts for coordinated mobility services.

These technological developments are linked with societal acceptance criteria, helping to ensure that remote operations are designed for safe, efficient and responsible use.

Demonstration pilots

AcceptRemote validates its concepts through three complementary pilot demonstrations addressing passenger transport, autonomous logistics and integrated transport of people and goods.

Together, these pilots provide real-world environments for assessing technological performance, operational feasibility, societal acceptance, safety and user trust across different mobility contexts.

Detailed information about each pilot can be found in the dedicated Pilot pages.

Expected contribution

By linking technological innovation with societal insight and policy relevance, AcceptRemote contributes to future mobility systems that are inclusive, trustworthy and responsive to European societal needs.

The project will support the development of operational guidelines, safety validation approaches and future deployment pathways for remote operations in mobility.
